Mat Kearney Concert!!!

On Friday a bunch of friends and I went to the Mat Kearney concert.  There were 11 of is total and it was SO MUCH FUN!  He is an excellent performer.  I loved every minute of it.  I've been listening to his new CD seriously every single day for the past few weeks to gear up and I'm not sick of it yet!  So I've been wanting to see Mat Kearney in concert for a few years now and it's never worked out, so this year I was going to make it happen! I bought all the tickets and made reservations for dinner beforehand, and wouldn't you know I had car problems while leaving to go meet everyone......my car wouldn't start.  So I had to take it in to get looked at and ended up leaving it overnight.  Then I had to take the MAX (light rail) downtown to meet everyone at the concert, missing dinner of course.  Thankfully I was too excited for the concert to notice my hunger, but that Voodoo donut afterwards never tasted so good!  I'm becoming a concert person I think.....there's just something in being close to the stage and "feeling" the music.  It's amazing.  I'm already thinking about which concert will be next.....

I LOVE Surprises

So last night I got home from a party and had a surprise waiting on the porch for me.....not one, but THREE pair of new swim goggles from my triathlon training partner.  Maybe he's just sick of letting me borrow his.....

But it makes me think back to Christmas and I can honestly say I NEVER tried to peak at my presents beforehand.  It ruins all the fun people!  Surprises are the best.  And when one is ruined for me, I get pretty upset....like the time my dad accidentally told me my little sis was coming for a visit and I had to act surprised when she knocked on my door.  Didn't work too well.  At least I got to see the enjoyment when she surprised my older sister.

Maybe my love of surprises stems from my love of adventures, trying new things and doing dares.  The new and unexpected adds a little flavor to life.  But, the question is......which one did I like first that influenced the others??

Line Dancing

A few weeks ago I let some of my classmates talk me into going line dancing.  I mean, as you already know from my previous post, I love to dance.  Line dancing is a different story though.  You can't bust loose and you're doing the same thing as everyone else.

The good thing was there was an hour long free class beforehand.  Perfect!  Easy peasy...... NOT!  The class was designated "Advanced" and that had me a little worried.  I am definitely a beginner.  Heck..... we ROCKED that class though!  It was so much fun to learn a new dance.  Now I just have to remember it for the next time we go.  We kicked it for a while afterwards - chatted, snacked, danced some more.  And now I'm in the country music mode!  Well, almost......

A sign we saw on the wall that I liked:
Cowgirl Motto: Sheep always stay away from wolves - fer darn good reason!

The Birthday Celebrations Continue......

My favorite thing about my birthday is celebrating for multiple days in a row.  Can't get any better than that!  My friend Erin threw a party for both Bailey (pictured below) and I since our birthdays are only 2 days apart.  I requested a dance party so my friend Natalie threw together an amazing dance mix.  One problem.....everyone was making excuses to dance.  I totally understand - I was once like that.  Good thing life at BYU broke me of that.  I love dancing!  Thanks to a few of my favs and some classmates that came, we made fools of ourselves dancing for a few songs while everyone else was jealous that they couldn't be as awesome as us :)

Erin made us each a birthday cake.  Oh look, I turned 25......again......  Erin called me up one day and asked if she could put my age on my cake.  I mean I'm only turning 28, which isn't really a big deal.  But at the same time, it's getting pretty close to 30.....  So I said, Sure, but what if it says 25 instead??  And she really did it!  Awesome.  28 is going to be the best year yet!  I just know it.  Lots of adventure is in store......... I cannot wait!

Private Concert with Ingrid Michaelson

So I'm sitting in class Wednesday, on my birthday, listening to a lecture on neoplasms of the nervous system when I get this gchat from my friend Anya (sitting in the row ahead of me):

"i have a birthday proposition for you.  what are you doing tomorrow around mmmm 3ish?"
So I say, "joining you for some fun?"  Little did I know what she was about to say next.......  She had won tickets on the radio that morning to meet and see Ingrid Michaelson in a private concert downtown.  She hadn't planned on inviting anyone in the class so no one would feel left out, but......thank goodness it was my birthday!  Hers is in a few weeks so what better way to celebrate our birthdays together??

The only thing was we had a test the next day.  And it wasn't going to be a cake walk, not Neurology.  Turns out it was the hardest test I have taken yet.  So you might ask.....did I go to the concert?  HECK YES!!  And.....did I regret going?  HECK NO!!  It was totally worth it.

Anya was on the 2nd row and I was on the 3rd.  SUCH GOOD SEATS.  And she is such an amazing singer.  It was a casual concert - she only performed about 5 songs and they asked her questions in between.  More like a "meet and greet" concert, which is fine with me!  She also performed a few songs off her new CD that just came out the end of January.  So good.

So afterwards we got to talk with her, take a picture with her, and get a signed poster.  BOOYAH!!  Best birthday EVER!
It won't let me upload the video I have of her singing "Maybe"......
