I have been craving sugar like no other...

So I'm a pretty healthy eater and I never buy anything sugary at the store, but tonight I find myself writing this post at home with a bag of Peanut Butter M&M's on my right and a bag of Skittles on my left.  And we're talking the large size, not the puny vending machine size.  I've had a lot more sugar in the last week or two too.  Hmmm..... maybe it's the 60 hr. work week I just finished a few hours ago?  Maybe it's the depressing weather?  Maybe it's not having any family or friends around?  Whatever it is, it must stop.  I've been to the gym literally once in the last month.  I blame it on my sprained ankle back in December.  No, I blame it on the influenza I contracted the beginning of January.  No, I blame it on not having a gym to go to.  There's no way I'm going running in the rain.  So alas, here I sit w/ my two bags of giant sized candy.  I must say, it can't get any better than this.  Time to start my infamous no sugar diet??  I have an 11 week record to break...

No Sugar No Sweets

This is to show you just how integral of a part sugar is to my diet.
A friend of mine and I decided we'd have a little competition....see who could go the longest without eating sweets or candy. Sounds easy, right? Well, not for me! I love anything with sugar in it. I like "to stick to the 4 main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup." If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you don't know what my favorite movie is :)

So we started on December 23. Perfect timing for all of the holiday treats. So I went 2 full days without sweets or candy and I was doing pretty good......until Christmas Eve and Christmas Day that is. Basically, let's just say that I had no personality. I had nothing to say and I wasn't being my typically self. My sisters kept saying that we needed to get some sugar in me and so finally I folded. I mean, who wants to be personality-less? Haha! It was quite funny.

Anyway, so I didn't tell my friend that I had decided to wait to begin the offical competition until the new year rolled around. Meanwhile, he's continuing to not eat any sugar. Haha, oh man. Then I finally confessed when I came back to Provo. He was shocked, but that just means he's a week ahead of me, right?! I have a small punishment for postponing the inevitable - run a few laps around the BYU track, 25 to be exact.

We had established from the beginning the consequence for eating sugar: 50 laps around the BYU track, all at the same time. Also, if you want to stop to walk, fine, but that won't contribute to the 50 laps. Harsh! But good (Elise came up with this idea).

So I officially started on December 31 and have gone 3 full days. Yeah! Oh boy, that's nothing.....my friend is already at 11 days. I'm NOT going to lose though! The longest I've gone without sugar before was 6 weeks. Maybe I'll beat it this time. How long do you think I can go? That's the real question. [So far, my personality does not seem to be suffering from adverse effects :)]
