Happy Happy Birthday!!

The big 25. Just a quick recap on my birthday celebration that was forever ago....February 1st. It was pretty much a 4-day celebration. My birthday was on a Sunday so I got to celebrate on Friday at school. Lisi made a big sign outside of my classroom and brought balloons. A few classes sang to me. I got to celebrate on Saturday going out to dinner with the family at Goodwood. Artisto's birthday was on Jan. 30 and Hunter's on February 6 so we got to celebrate 3 birthdays in one. We then had a cake afterwards for the three of us. Sunday we did dinner together. And Monday I went to dinner at Carraba's with my old roommates Allison, Dixie and Amy. What a party!!

Draper Utah Temple

Today I was able to enjoy the Draper Utah Temple Dedication. It was a lovely service with lots of great talks. Don't tell, but I actually didn't have a white handkercheif so I used a Kleenex instead! Hey, it worked just fine....

The sad part is that I never actually got to go through the Open House like everybody else. I had two chances to go with my ward, but I didn't go since my dad was coming into town and we all had tickets to go together as a family. Well, when it got down to it, the day we were going to go, I got really sick. I had a 103 degree fever among other symptons. My sister was kind enough to take me to the doctor, but there wasn't much he could do. I spent all of 3 days in bed and missed the Open House, which I had been waiting for for weeks. Moral of the story - Don't wait until the last opportunity to do something!!

Related to the temple, I've been thinking about my family a lot lately and how important they are to me. All my siblings live here in Utah and I got to see both my Mom and Dad in the last couple of weeks. I don't know what I'd do without them, that's for sure! I love you guys!!

My First Trophy as COACH

Last weekend was the final tournament to end our basketball season. We took 3rd place!! I was hoping to do better and we could have taken 2nd place or even 1st, but it pretty much all came down to luck.....
The tournament was double elimination. We played our biggest rival right off, Paradigm (the bracket was totally messed up). During the season they beat us twice and we beat them twice. This was the most exciting game that I'll probably ever get to coach. It went into DOUBLE overtime and.... we barely lost 26 -24. The crowd was going wild too.
So we fell into the losers bracket and easily won the next two games, Provo Canyon School 30 - 11 and Merit 52 - 29. It was nice because as a coach I was able to play my 2nd and 3rd stringers tons and give them more playing time. It was a brutal tournament schedule though, because the 3 games I just told you about were played straight in a row. My girls didn't even get a 10 minute break! Man....
The next day, Saturday, we had an 8 am game against Paradigm.....again! This was also a really good game. It went back and forth the whole time, but we just couldn't do it. We lost to them again 43 - 40. I'll tell you what, we are two really evenly matched teams! I love playing them for that reason. Basically either of us could have won both of those games (the first one & this one), but we just weren't lucky I guess.

My girls were disappointed to lose to them again, but I think they were happy with where we ended up. They played AMAZING!!! If you could have seen these girls at the beginning of the season and then see them now, you'd see a difference of night and day. They have improved sooo much. I'm proud of the progress they've made, both individually and as a team. I'm already looking forward to next year!

This trophy is proudly on display in my classroom. Pretty big for 3rd place, eh? Oh, and next year I'll be coaching volleyball as well. They asked me just the other day. Should be exciting!!
Look at that teamwork!!

Dot, Dot, Dot...

So I've noticed as I write that I have a trademark...
It's dot, dot, dot...

Sometimes it's hard to actually show your personality 100% in writing, not saying that it has anything to do with dot, dot, dot but I enjoy the challenge nevertheless. I've enjoyed keeping this blog for you, as well as my own benefit and loved it even more when I was in Spain since I really had to describe things well for you to capture the culture.

So anyway my favorite thing to do when I write is use dot, dot, dot.... I guess maybe because it separates me from other writers. If you look down through all my other posts I use it in every single one! haha!
