Because of my recent PA applications, I took a day off of school last week and shadowed a MD in the Utah Valley Pediatrics office. My roommate's mom works there so she set me up to shadow one of the more popular doctors. Mostly I just felt like I was following him around all day, but I must have done something right cause my roommate came home the other day and said the doc said I was one of the most impressive persons he has ever had shadow, and apparently there has been a lot because he is such a good doctor. Was it because I asked lots of questions? Was it because I stayed behind and chatted a little longer with the patients? Was it because I tried to make the kids smile? I honestly don't know. But I'm sure glad and let's hope it pays off so I get into the university I want!
It was an interesting day though. The doc saw a range of patients from 4 days old to 15 years old. About half were in for well checks and the other half for anything from colds to the flu to asthma. There were a few procedures I saw such as a circumcision and a girl getting 3 staples in the back of her head after hitting a brick wall. This definitely clenches it......I think I want to go into surgery or the ER. I definitely enjoyed the day shadowing though. And I definitely know I don't want to work in a clinic. Too many sick kids. Maybe that's why I'm suffering with the flu right now....

I'm sorry you're still sick! But, I'm glad you found a good doctor to shadow!
Sorry you are sick! So cool to hear about your shadowing experience!
You would want to do surgery or emergencies! Crazy kid, but kind of exciting.
So fun! Where do you want to go to PA school! That's such a great profession... good luck with applications!
